Artist
Lana Frey
Lana Frey trained in the studio of M. S. Tolmachev and, as part of that studio, showed work in Japan and Poland. She later studied design and decor. Travel through Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, Spain and Italy led her to writing, then back to painting.
The work comes from history, myth and the ordinary mix of feeling in a day: love, joy, desire, sadness. She paints with a palette knife, in fast strokes and thick paint, without a sketch or a colour plan. Faces are not drawn first. The painting is made in the moment.
She rarely stays with one style, and she rarely works on only one canvas at a time. The paintings have been shown in Paris, Rome, New York, Aix-en-Provence, Lyon and Miami.
