Patrick Killian with the Times Square painting
Artist

Patrick Killian

Patrick J. Killian is a Welsh painter of boxers and fight nights. Born in 1974, he grew up in Cwmcarn in the valleys. He sold a first painting at fifteen, took Art at Crosskeys, then a distinction in Fine Art and Illustration at Carmarthenshire College in 1995. Greeting-card publishers took the early work. Boxing had already taken the rest of him.

He boxed as an amateur out of Cwmcarn — around forty-five bouts, most of them wins — and was headed toward a professional turn with Enzo Calzaghe before the hands and the politics of the sport pushed him back to the studio. The two trades never really split. He paints the stare, the week of the fight, the moment the card turns, because he has stood in those rooms.

For more than thirty years the subject has been combat: portraits of fighters and the nights that change a career. He is the official artist to the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame, painting for inductees at the Hard Rock. In 2022, at the WBA Convention in Florida, WBA President Gilberto Mendoza awarded him for his contribution to boxing art over thirty years. The WBA also commissioned a centenary work. The WBO commissioned Usyk as Fighter of the Year. He has painted live through fight week in Las Vegas, New York, Manchester and Saudi Arabia.

The work has gone to people inside the sport as well as to collectors. Events around Muhammad Ali, pieces seen and signed by Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather and Anthony Joshua, charity nights at the Dorchester. Dana White has bought MMA canvases. In 2025 His Excellency Turki Alalshikh acquired the original Times Square painting from the Fatal Fury card — six fighters on the May skyline.

He still works from Wales and still travels to the fights. Tyson-Now&Then Signed by Mike Tyson is the first work listed here. Further originals from the studio will follow.
